PROPAGANDA
Intimates
Unlike other images on this site, these were reproduced to be held in the hand or placed close to you on a desk or table.
Like the larger wall posters, they included several styles and a range of content. Some were scaled down versions of the posters, whereas others reproduced oil and ink paintings. All conveyed politically correct messages close up, with or without text.
SELECTION
This Collection
Thousands of these intimate pieces were issued during the Mao Years. Sometimes as sets, enclosed within a cover bearing titles that disclosed the original medium of the works reproduced. Oil Paintings, Chinese iInk Paintings, Propaganda Posters, Nianhua, Woodblock Prints.
We believe that the first 83 images displayed here come from a single collector, either an individual or a unit. As such they may show a preference for particular themes or medium. They do show the breadth of styles and content that could be held in the hand and studied for as long and as often as desired.
